Jennifer Otsuki, known for many years in the restaurant industry as “Suki,” is a chef and author of the cookbook Soul Nourished whose work brings together culinary tradition, intentional cooking, and community gathering.

An Austin native, Jennifer spent nearly two decades working in professional kitchens across the Dallas restaurant industry after graduating from the Texas Culinary Academy, refining her craft and leading teams in high-pressure environments.

Today she leads the Soul Nourished brand, where she creates curated culinary gatherings, collaborates with retreat facilitators as a retreat chef, and hosts immersive retreat experiences rooted in food, connection, and care.

Her work invites people back to the table to slow down, share meaningful meals, and reconnect with what it means to be truly well fed.

The Turning Point

My relationship with food has changed over time.

For nearly two decades I lived inside restaurant kitchens. The work was fast, demanding, and relentless, sharpening my instincts as a chef and shaping how I approached food.

But like many in the industry, I eventually found myself running on adrenaline and exhaustion, questioning what nourishment really meant when the people cooking the food were often the most depleted.

When my restaurant chapter closed, I stepped into a different kind of work. Somatic practices, yoga, and a deeper process of healing helped me reconnect with my body and with food in a new way.

Around that same time, I began cooking for retreats, where I saw how food could support people in a completely different way than it does in restaurants. Instead of rushing through service, meals became part of the rhythm of reflection, conversation, and care.

Out of that season, Soul Nourished began to take shape.

What started as a personal shift in how I cooked and lived grew into a cookbook, culinary gatherings, and retreat collaborations designed to help people slow down, share meaningful meals, and reconnect with the deeper experience of being well fed.

Philosophy

What I Believe About Food

Food is not simply fuel. It carries history, memory, and care in the hands that prepare it and the people who gather to share it.

The kitchen can be a sanctuary, a place where slowing down, cooking with intention, and tending to others becomes a form of healing.

Cooking is a lineage. Recipes are passed down through gestures, unmeasured handfuls, and the quiet ways knowledge moves from one generation to the next.

A communal table filled with dishes from the Soul Nourished cookbook, shared among friends in a warm, family-style gathering that reflects the spirit of cooking, connection, and community.

Community is medicine. Some of the most meaningful moments of connection happen around a shared table.

Work With Jennifer

Food has always been how I care for others.
Today it is also how I help people come home to themselves.
